Custom reports are key to property owner satisfaction

Financial reporting is a crucial aspect of real estate accounting, making it an integral part of property management software. Breeze and Breeze Premier each come with their own set of standard reports, but for Breeze Premier clients with unique needs, we also offer custom reports.

This unique feature makes it easy to consolidate data and customize your financial reports for property owners. Built-in filters let you choose what data appears, hide what you don’t want and determine how it’s all formatted. This can eliminate the need to generate multiple reports or edit data in Excel. Custom Reports reduce manual entry and make it faster to get the information you need in the format you want.

Additionally, custom reports work with custom data tables in Yardi Breeze Premier. For example, a client can track insurance numbers or vendor details using custom fields.

Who might benefit from custom reports over standard report templates?

Clients with owners who have specific reporting needs would benefit the most. Sometimes owners want to see things a certain way or exclude certain details. If you have multiple owners, custom reports let you tailor each readout without much hassle. Once configured, your reports literally take seconds to generate.

Types of custom reports: Ad hoc & YSR

Ad hoc reports

Ad hoc reports are built directly in Breeze Premier. They’re convenient, efficient and fully customizable. Here’s how they work.

Clients choose one data point, such as properties or tenants. Then they select the fields and filters they want. Ad hoc reports can be exported to screen, Excel or PDF. Ad hoc reports are custom, but they’re created by the client. They’re free to create for all Breeze Premier users, and unlimited support is available via live chat when needed.

Yardi Scripted Reports (YSR’s)

YSRs are more complex. They must be created by our programming team and incur a cost. We will attempt to meet your needs with an ad hoc report first. If that doesn’t work, we recommend a YSR.

YSRs can include multiple data points, calculations and formatting. Unlike ad hoc reports, YSRs can only be exported to Excel or PDF. They don’t display within Breeze Premier.

Without custom reports, what problems can come up?

Without the ability to create a custom report, you might need to run multiple standard reports and combine the data yourself. This means you have to manually format everything in Excel and add any missing information. If the data doesn’t exist in Breeze Premier, it needs to be entered manually.

How long does it take for Yardi to create a YSR?

The total timeline for a report is about two to four months, depending on complexity. A simple modification might be quick, but a new report can take longer. Because of the cost and time to completion, it generally makes sense for Breeze Premier clients to look into ad hoc reports first. If a YSR is necessary, our programmers can get you exactly what you need.

“To date, we’ve created hundreds of YSRs. Clients love that their custom reports save time, help optimize their business and keep property owners happy,” said Tiffany Trinh, technical analyst at Yardi. “Owners want concise, easy-to-read reports. Sometimes they want very specific details. With custom reports, clients can deliver exactly what their owners want.”
